Research

  1. Identify and develop a topic:
What do I want to write about?

  2. Find background information:
What do I know about the topic? What else can I find about the topic?

  3. Check the online catalog for resources:
What information is in our library? What books? What media resources?

  4. Search online databases for periodicals:
What magazines, journals or newspaper articles are about my topic?

  5. Find Web resources about a topic:
What information is on the internet? Is it safe? Is it peer reviewed?

  6. Evaluate what you find:
Does the information support what I want to say? Does it present another view?

  7. Cite what you find:
Who wrote this information? Where did I find this information? How can I find it again?

If you have questions about your topic or finding information, please ask your teacher or librarian for assistance.
